Why is the orthodontic result retention phase necessary?

This phase is necessary to maintain for a lifetime the beautiful smile we achieved with the help of Orthodontics. This is because the teeth after the removal of orthodontic appliances (braces) have a tendency to return to their original crooked positions, because they have simply not yet stabilized in their new straight positions. This tendency of the teeth to move in their original positions can last for a long time and is different from person to person. The retention of the result is achieved either by the use of mobile orthodontic appliances that the patient wears at night or by gluing a special orthodontic wire from the inner surface of the front teeth.
